Purpose

  • To lead development of benthological sciences academically and to contribute to conservation and sustainable management of aquatic ecosystems in Asian countries
  • To promote information exchange among members through regular and irregular meetings and communications

Scope

The society includes the following technical fields of studies on benthos that inhabit rivers, streams, lakes, estuaries, coastal areas, and other water bodies.

  • Systematics, phylogeny, and evolution
  • Structure, function, and stability of populations, communities, and ecosystems
  • Physiology and behavior
  • Genetics and molecular biology
  • Modeling, forecasting, and management
  • Conservation of biodiversity
  • Biological monitoring and assessment

  • Other research fields related to benthos and aquatic ecosystems
